Mission
Statement
The Mission of Saint Louis University is the pursuit of
truth for the greater glory of God and for the service
of humanity. The University seeks excellence in the
fulfillment of its corporate purposes of teaching,
research and community service. It is dedicated to
leadership in the continuing quest for understanding of
God?s creation, and for the discovery, dissemination and
integration of the values, knowledge and skills required
to transform society in the spirit of the Gospels. As a
Catholic, Jesuit university, the pursuit is motivated by
the inspiration and values of the Judaeo-Christian
tradition and is guided by the spiritual and
intellectual ideals of the Society of Jesus.
In support of this mission the University: Encourages
and supports innovative scholarship and effective
teaching in all fields of the humanities, the natural,
health and medical sciences, the social sciences, the
law, business, aviation, and technology.
Enables an academic environment which values and
promotes free, active and original intellectual inquiry

In U.S.News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges
2007" issue, SLU is ranked among the top five Catholic
institutions on the list.
SLU is now also listed as one of the “Best Midwestern

Princeton Review 2007 Princeton Review says avg SLU GPA
is 3.68"

Program and Academics Honors
The School of Law's health law program ranked No. 1 in
the nation for the third year in a row in U.S. News &
World Report's "Best Graduate Schools 2007."
In the "Best Graduate Schools 2007" issue, U.S. News
ranked the part-time MBA program at SLU's John Cook
School of Business No. 25 in the nation out of 347
part-time MBA programs accredited by the Association to
Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
The business school entrepreneurship program has been
ranked consistently in the top tier of major regional
universities by Entrepreneur Magazine.
The national magazine Diverse - Issues In Higher
Education, formerly known as Black Issues in Higher
Education, ranked Saint Louis University 12th in the
number of doctoral degrees in education awarded to
African Americans, 21st in total minority doctoral
degrees in education and 30th in the number of master's
degrees in the health professions or related sciences
granted to Asian Americans.
Research, Faculty and
Scholarly Achievements
Saint Louis University is one of a handful of Catholic
universities classified by the Carnegie Foundation as
"research extensive."
During fiscal-year 2005, Health Sciences Center
researchers received a record $72.7 million in funds
awarded through grants, contracts and subcontracts. SLU
researchers in areas outside of health sciences also
experienced a record year in funds awarded through
grants, contracts and subcontracts, generating $7.3
million during fiscal-year 2005.
The Knights of Columbus Vatican Film Library at Saint
Louis University provides access to information and
files found no where else other than the Vatican itself.
It draws educators and researchers from around the
world.
SLU boasts 34 endowed chairs and 11 named
professorships.
99 percent of tenured and tenure-track faculty members
hold a terminal degree.
Health and Medical
Covering more than three dozen specialties, 112 SLUCare
doctors were selected for St. Louis Magazine's 2006
"Best Doctors" list. The list is based on the annual
"Best Doctors in America" database.
The geriatrics program is ranked 12th in the country by
U.S. News & World Report.
U.S. News & World Report's "Best Graduate Schools 2007"
issue rated Saint Louis University School of Medicine
No. 62 out of 143 leading research-intensive medical
schools.
Modern Maturity named Saint Louis University Hospital
one of the top 50 in the United States for elderly
patients.
The School of Medicine recently received the two largest
grants in University history. The first was a $36.8
million award from the National Institutes of Health to
combat herpes. The second-largest ever grant was
announced a few months earlier: an $18 million grant to
the Vaccine Treatment and Evaluation Unit at SLU's
Center for Vaccine Development.
The School of Public Health received its largest ever
grant of $10.6 million from the National Cancer
Institute and the CDC. Funds support research in the
prevention of cardiovascular disease, cancer, obesity,
bioterrism, HIV/AIDS and other diseases.
Scholarly Athletes
SLU has won Conference USA's Institutional Excellence
Award every year since the league has existed. The award
is given to the school with the highest cumulative grade
point average.
Cross country's Meg Gleason was the University's first
student-athlete to become a Rhodes Scholar in 1999.

Admission Stats
Nearly 8,000 students apply for approximately 1,500
places in the entering freshman class each year. The
average admitted student has an ACT score of 26.4 and a
3.69 GPA. Approximately one-third of freshmen were in
the top 10 percent of their graduating high school
class.
Enrollment
7,479 undergraduates and 2,937 graduate
students (including medical and law students) from all
50 states and more than 80 foreign countries. 1,721
freshmen.
Tuition and Financial Aid
2007-08 undergraduate tuition and fees: $28,878
(approximate room and board/additional expenses $8,550).
For the 200-06 academic year, more than 90 percent of
first-time freshmen received aid, as did more than 93
percent of all undergraduates.
Curriculum
More than 85 undergraduate majors and more than 50
graduate programs. Following the Jesuit tradition, most
programs require core classes in philosophy and
theology.

Founded in 1818 as a Jesuit, Catholic university, SLU is

Location
St. Louis, Missouri -- in the heart of the city's
performing arts district and the center of the country.
A five-minute drive from the Gateway Arch on the
Mississippi Riverfront. A second campus is located in
Madrid, Spain.
Athletics
NCAA Division I in 14 sports including baseball,
basketball, cross country, field hockey, soccer,
softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball. In
2005, SLU joined the Atlantic 10 Conference.
