The Freshman
Diaries – LAUREN WOODS
When Preparation Meets
Opportunity - Diary
Entry #3
I can not believe our season is about to begin. It seems
like only weeks ago, my high school was holding girls
basketball varsity tryouts. Needless to say, I made the
most of that opportunity (smile).
As our Billiken season unfolds, I see another
opportunity. I see an opportunity for us to be one of
the best Saint Louis University Women's basketball team
ever. From my perspective, our success will be measured
in terms of academic achievement, a winning record, and
an invitation to post season competition.
Make no mistake about it. We are working hard and
focused on winning the Atlantic 10 championship. We
think about it. We talk about it, and our hard work is
preparing us for the rigors of A-10 competition.
I trust and have faith in my coaches, teammates, and
staff. However, as a freshman, I am not sure what it
will take to earn that A-10 championship trophy (and
bling bling).
During weightlifting sessions in our basement, my dad
taught me that success comes when preparation meets
opportunity. That usually meant extra repetitions.
(Hated it!)
I trust that our coaches and staff have prepared us with
guidance and direction. My teammates and I have prepared
ourselves through focus and hard work.
Uh oh, I hear opportunity knocking. Stay tuned, I have
to answer the door..
