Freshman Business major Ashley Hanlen, known simply as “Ash”, is a native St. Louisan. Ashley decided to attend college in her hometown so she could help lead Saint Louis University to prominence and recognition. (Going home every other night to eat dinner with her

family and do her laundry had nothing to do with her decision. Promise.) When Ash is not going home to hang with Mom, Dad, & her younger sisters, she can be found scaring Jacy, studying, icing her ankle, or giggling uncontrollably. If you still can’t find her, look in the practice facility. She’ll be the one on the gun shooting three pointers by herself .

Diary Entry #2

Good morning St. Louis! I know it’s been a while since my last entry, but no worries…I’ll be sure to fill you in on everything you need to know! First, and foremost…IT’S GAME DAY! Although it’s a quick turn around from a tough loss, as coach reminded us the day after our game, “As hard as it is to be motivated and not dwell on lasts night’s loss…we have to…We CAN. We WILL. We’re close. Quitting /giving up is not an option for us. We are fighters.” With that being said, tonight is the night we need to come out and BRING IT. I truly feel that we are capable of doing anything if we really put our minds to it.
Speaking of being capable of doing anything if you put your mind to it… the other day our athletic trainer (“Hummel”) really put her mind to something that we thought was nearly impossible for her to do; however, she proved us wrong. Every shoot around before our game, our team plays this game at the very end where 3 seconds are put on the shot clock and you have to make the last second shot. You start on one end of the court and throw the ball off the backboard, get the rebound and dribble the ball as far as you can to the other end and throw up a Hail Mary as the time winds down. Although we cry laughing at everyone’s “technique,” the person we always get a kick out of the most is “Hummel”. I can honestly say that I have never thought something was so funny to the point where I fell on my knees and started crying laughing. After watching Hummel’s technique, I lost it and broke down to the ground in tears…along with the rest of my teammates. Anyway…when it came time for Hummel’s turn the other day, we all had our jerseys covering our mouths because we wanted to hide our laughter. As 3 seconds were put on the clock and she gently threw her basketball to the boards, she grabbed the rebound and ran on her tippy toes to half court and winged up a miracle. As the ball was heading in the right direction, we could not believe our eyes… THE BALL WENT IN!! As if it weren’t exciting enough, we got quite a reaction from Hummel that we had never seen before. I won’t go in to too much detail about her reaction… which she would thank me for... but all I gotta say is Thank God we got it on camera. Haha
Anyways... I’m off to class, but I’ll be sure to keep in touch!

Coaches Update: Since Ashley submitted this we went on to beat Rhode Island in our game that evening and Hummel actually hit an unprecedented SECOND half court shot at shootaround that day!!
